Sustainability Commitment

Our Pledge to a Greener Future

At Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, we are passionate about creating a magical event that is kind to the planet. We’re committed to reducing our environmental impact and championing responsible practices, ensuring a brighter future for generations to come.

Our Sustainability Initiatives

We’ve taken meaningful steps to make our event as sustainable and responsible as possible. Here’s how we’re making a difference:

Waste & Recycling

  • Zero event waste goes to landfill – everything is recycled, reused, or composted.
  • We partner with wood salvage projects to donate wood to community gardens, supporting local green spaces.
  • Unused uniforms are donated to the Ukraine Mission, helping others in need.
  • Used cooking oil is recycled for greener uses.
  • All Christmas trees from the event are composted, returning nutrients to the earth.
  • A percentage of our game prizes are crafted from recycled plastic bottles.
  • We have made our bin signs clearer and easier for visitors to know the correct bin to use.

Travel & Transport

  • We encourage all visitors to use public transport for their journey to Winter Wonderland, reducing carbon emissions.
  • Our central London location ensures excellent public transport links, making it easy and sustainable to reach us.
  • We actively monitor our suppliers’ delivery journeys to track their carbon output and work collaboratively with them to optimise routes and consolidate deliveries, ensuring maximum efficiency and minimal environmental impact.
Traditional Wave Swinger

Energy

  • We continually seek ways to reduce our energy usage and use sustainable sources wherever possible.
  • We operate a strict ‘switch off’ policy, ensuring that all lights, heaters, and equipment not required overnight are turned off to conserve energy.
  • Additionally, the event exclusively uses HVO biofuel—a renewable diesel produced from waste vegetable oil.

Food & Beverage

  • Our food outlets prioritise sustainable practices with compostable packaging and minimise single-use plastics.
  • All traders are required to provide at least one plant-based or vegetarian option, ensuring there are sustainable and inclusive food choices for everyone.
  • Used cooking oil is recycled for greener uses.
  • Our traders only use 100% fair trade tea, coffee and hot chocolate.

Local Area Impact

  • We work closely with local communities to ensure our event has a positive impact and supports local initiatives.
  • Our third annual Winter Wishes offers an accessible morning at Hyde Park Winter Wonderland for groups who may otherwise find attending difficult. Guests can enjoy the event without large crowds, thanks to reduced capacity and enhanced accessibility measures such as lower lighting and sound levels, low-sensory skating, audio guides, and additional accessible facilities. Further details are available here.
  • Local schools are invited to participate in our yearly art competition, where children aged 4 to 14 have the opportunity to submit designs that may be showcased at the event. For more information, please visit here.

Protecting the Ecology and the Park

We take outstanding care to protect Hyde Park’s natural spaces, flora, and fauna throughout the event

  • We carry out regular ecological surveys and carefully plan our site layout to minimise any disruption to the local wildlife.
  • We utilise state-of-the-art technology to safeguard both the trees and the ground, including the use of trackway and protective barriers to lessen the event’s impact.
  • In collaboration with our cleaning team and local residents, we make every effort to keep the surrounding streets free from additional litter.

How You Can Help

We’re committed to making our event as sustainable as possible, and your participation plays a vital role. Here are some simple ways you can contribute:

  • Travel to the event using public transport – both underground and mainline stations provide easy access.
  • If possible, consider walking or cycling to the park.
  • Dispose of your rubbish in the appropriate bins. Each bin is clearly labelled to help you recycle your waste correctly.
  • Bring a reusable water bottle and make use of the multiple water points around the site.
  • Take your prizes home or consider gifting them to someone for Christmas, rather than letting them go to waste.
  • Try a vegetarian or plant-based meal option during your visit.
  • Be considerate of our neighbours as you leave and avoid leaving any litter behind.

Join us in celebrating the festive season sustainably. Together, we can make a difference for our planet.
